“Advent, like its cousin Lent, is a season for prayer and reformation of our hearts. Since it comes at winter time, fire is a fitting sign to help us celebrate Advent. If Christ is to come more fully into our lives this Christmas, if God is to become really incarnate for us, then fire will have to be present in our prayer. Our worship and devotion will have to stoke the kind of fire in our souls that can truly change our hearts. Ours is a great responsibility not to waste this Advent time.”
– Edward Hays, A Pilgrim’s Almanac
To that end I wanted to include the following video. I hope you are beginning to slow down. To be still. To listen and even to open up. Perhaps this year you are looking to open the vents to your heart, letting the wind of the Holy Spirit fan the small flame burning inside you. If so, stoke it with prayer. You are well aware of how the rushing around with the busyness of the holiday season can choke out the tender flame. It may have done so before. But not this year.
It’s your decision. Let your fire grow strong by giving it a chance.
That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through the laying on of my hands. God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control. ~ 2 Timothy 1:6-7
